My Web…Yahoo does some makeover!!!

With tons of competitors, Yahoo had to give its ‘Yahoo My Web’, its social bookmarking website, a face lift. The former Yahoo My Web certainly lacked features that the other social bookmarking sites are currently offering its users. Features from the recently Yahoo acquired ‘Del.icio.us’ have also been incorporated in the new My Web.

Yahoo! has not done any kind of changes to ‘Del.icio.us’ because it certainly realizes that this social bookmarking website already has a strongly established community and any kind of changes would have surely been risky. The changes either would have got a positive reaction or a negative one. So, I guess Yahoo! decided to play it safe and instead made some remarkable and much needed changes to Yahoo My Web.

What is new and hot?

Earlier Yahoo My Web was a basic social bookmarking website. It used to allow to people to save their favorite webpages or websites by bookmarking them. But, obviously, this website lacked uniqueness. It was for this purpose that Yahoo launched a new and fresh MY WEB in late 2006. Most importantly it allows its users, at last, to tag (and add keywords) their favorite bookmarks (so that others can find them using those or related keywords) and also to share them with their friends.

Let’s take a look at some of its new features.

·         The look- Yahoo My Web gets to look better. Its new look adds more value to its newly added features. It’s fresh and trendy. And its users definitely love it more than ever.

·         New name- Yahoo My Web was launched with a new name ‘Yahoo My Web 2.0’. However, ‘2.0’ was deleted from its name. It is said that this happened because of some trademark issues that Yahoo had. The credibility of this statement is, however, questionable.

·         View ‘Top Tags’- The new Yahoo My Web gives its users the opportunity to view the most popular tags of a certain period of time. This can be viewed directly from its home page itself.

·         View ‘Interesting Today’- This feature allows its users to view what Yahoo thinks is hot and interesting. You can view this from its homepage once again.

·         View ‘Tag Finder’- You can also search all the tags to find the one that you are looking for. You simply have to type in the keywords and Yahoo My Web shall guide you easily toward the related tags.

·         View ‘Active Taggers’- You can find out who are the most active taggers in a particular category. And if you want you can also add them to your contact list.

The new Yahoo My Web is surely better from its previous version. But still, it surely has a long way to go before it can actually match upto the variety of options that other social bookmarking sites have on offer.
